How Long Can Cooked Oxtails Stay In The Fridge

How long can I keep meats in the fridge for?

How long can I keep oxtail for and chicken for in the fridge. Bought both on Sunday and contemplating cooking them today.

Edit 1:Thanks for the comments. Cooked both as the chicken seemed fine. Hopefully I don't get sick. I'll put the recipe for the oxtail stew in a couple of days if i deem it to be good.

Feel/Smell test: Does it smell funky? Is it slimy? If not, it's a go.

With that said, I don't keep raw meat in my fridge for longer than a week. But anything between 1-7 days, with the exception of seafood, as long as it looks and smells fine (that is to say, it doesn't have a smell), I'll eat it.

I think so too. I've seriously lowered my standards since I moved out from my parent's.

You'll live, especially if you don't smell anything weird and you heat it thoroughly.

My hesitation increases left to right: Solid cuts that get cooked through (e.g. pork loin), Cuts that may not get cooked through (e.g. steak), air-chilled chicken, ground meats, water-chilled chicken, seafood.

I wouldn't chance the chicken if it's water-chilled. Oxtail should be fine IMO.

I've heard that if you keep your meat in the bottom and back of the fridge, it'll last much longer. Ground beef will still go brown, but if you're under a week, you should be good to go.

you have millions of years of development put into your built in rotten food detector. smell it. if it smells bad don't eat it.

Sub-question: does using a vacuum sealer (in the fridge) increase the storage time?

Oxtail is probably okay, I'd throw away the chicken. I won't cook chicken if I've had it more than three days, it's not worth the risk of getting food poisoning. I'd rather spend ten bucks on more chicken than deal with getting sick.

Follow your nose, it always knows. Most set dates are guidelines with beef or pork. Chicken is not worth the risk if you ask me, so if you have to question it. Toss the shit.

I have the same question about yogurt if you don't mind me piggybacking here. Yogurt has such early expiration dates but usually it still smells good a while later. Hate to throw it out but I don't want to eat bad dairy.

level 2

If it's unopened it can last a good while, there's a dominance of good bacteria in it (if it's live culture yogurt). After a while that bacteria will run out of normal food and die off and that may not be pleasant tasting (lactic acid). If it smells, tastes, and looks normal I wouldn't worry at all. It will slowly become more sour though.

If it's open then I wouldn't keep it for too long.

Probably no more than a week, but use your own discretion. I also feed my dog raw and I've fed him meat that's been in the fridge for over two weeks, but still looks, smells, and feels fun. Just not sure if I'd eat it myself!
